The 8th Grade Science Team has been having a blast all week doing fun spook-tacular things to review the materials! On Monday and Tuesday we went down the rabbit hole to an Alice in Wonderland theme. We talked about matter, density, mixtures, Law of Conservation of Matter, properties of matter, periodic table, and so much more. The students were to write a quick reflection at each station they went to and turn it in for a grade. Wednesday was Renaissance themed where students explored potential and kinetic energy, and learned how to graph the data that they collected. (REMEMBER WE HAVE A TEST ON THIS NEXT WEEK!!! - Nov. 7) A worksheet was provided for them to turn in, and will be taken for a grade. Thursday is all about the CER (Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning), students will be going to 5 different demos and they have to pick two to write about. This will be due on Monday for a lab grade. Then on Friday, we are introducing them to a future topic we will be learning in class. This has been such an awesome experience that are all related directly to what we have learned, are learning about, and will learn about. Tutoring will pick back up next week in the mornings! Please let us know if you have any questions.
Let's Look At The Formula & Practice! How did Mrs. Holder Teach It Help:*Reminder- yes gravity is 9.82 and will never change, however, to keep the math simple round this up to 10!*** Always start with GUESS! Givens Unknowns Equation Substitute Solve - For Example: Problem 1 on the worksheet (attached below - due for a grade!)
V = 24 m/s Unknowns: KE= ? Equation = KE formula (it will not let me do the square sign) - 1/2MV^2 Substitute = KE = 1/2(1200)(24)^2 Solve - Plug it into your calculator. See the picture I did below to solve this problem! Followed by the worksheet that is due! energy_calculations_practice.docx Week 1:This has been an interesting week due to it being early release and PSAT week! I have enjoyed getting to meet with your parents and talk about our strengths and areas we need to grow. Please remember we are here for you. (With this being said we are changing the website around to make things easier. Check this blog for everything!) What is Energy? We have been learning basic terms and concepts of what energy is this week. We also have done two worksheets to help us apply these terms that are important. A potential energy (PE) and kinetic energy (KE) worksheet, as well as a word search (defining terms). This way we have it all in one area. Friday we will be handing out a practice sheet on how to calculate PE & KE. Tomorrow I will upload information on this. Please check back here for resources on materials we will be learning about tomorrow. Below, you will find the word search. wordsearch.pdf Need Help Understanding Energy? Look Here: |
